National Charity League, Jr. of San Marino  recently held their general fall meeting at Huntington Hospital where they set their goal for this year to raise at least $50,000 for both the neonatal and pediatric intensive care units. Over the last years, they have raised close to 2 million dollars for the hospital.

“It’s a great way to give back to the community,” said Dr. Lorie Purino. “I also had a premature child and know there’s nothing better than to have top equipment and top personnel taking care of vulnerable babies.”

Huntington Memorial has one of the largest NICU in the area and they will decide what their needs are, whether it be for more beds or more machines.

One machine in particular has piqued the interest of Dr. Purino, a neurologist, a device that helps physicians treat hospital patients remotely and also allows people in more rural areas the ability to receive care without being flown or driven to a hospital. With advancing technology, doctors are able to examine patients using TeleMonitoring that sometimes allow expert specialists to evaluate patients remotely saving precious time and lives.

The members of NCL, Jr. also shared in a dinner together while having their General meeting and took a tour of both the PICU and NICU areas and solidifying their resolve to assist Huntington in providing the best care for the community. The tour also gives the women a chance to see how their donations have been allocated. Last year the group was able to give a check for $80,000 to HMH.
