San Marino football players Tommy McAndrews and Henry Johnson in September took part in the first varsity Cub home football game for Loyola High in 65 years. Tickets were sold out in less than an hour at Bob Smith Field in in Los Angeles as the Cubs took on San Diego’s St. Augustine Saints.

Legendary coaches Lew Stueck and Steve Grady took care of the coin toss. The last game between the two schools at the stadium took place in 1949 when both teams belonged to the Catholic League.

Loyola is celebrating its sesquicentennial this year.
