PASADENA – Hathaway-Sycamores Child and Family Services, one of Los Angeles County’s leading providers of children’s mental-health services, recently received four generous and much needed grants from area foundations.

The largest grant, $150,000.00, was awarded by The Rose Hills Foundation, which is based in Pasadena. Hathaway-Sycamores will use these funds to renovate its Highland Park Family Resource Center. Located at 840 N. Ave. 66 in Highland Park, the Family Resource Center provides: after-school enrichment programs for children and adolescents; individual and family counseling; adult education classes; access to community technology centers; and prevention programs that are designed to enrich and empower families and their communities. Nineteen local public schools refer students to the Center, and it is the only free resource of its kind in the Highland Park area.

Another deeply appreciated grant, this one for $80,000.00, was presented by the California Community Foundation. Over a two-year period, these funds will be focused on Hathaway-Sycamore’s Transitional Independent Living Program (TILP) which provides emancipated foster youth with housing and helps them acquire the skills needed to live independently. Specifically, the grant will enable TILP to continue to offer housing to former-foster youth, provide workforce-preparedness training, individual job coaching, and job-placement assistance to emancipated foster youth, and connect former-foster youth with paid internship opportunities.

The Pasadena Community Foundation, which is dedicated to improving and enriching the lives of people in the greater Pasadena area, awarded a $25,000.00 grant to Hathaway-Sycamores. With 11 locations throughout Southern California, Hathaway-Sycamores has a myriad of transportation needs, so this welcomed grant will be used to purchase a utility vehicle.

Another Pasadena philanthropic organization, The Green Foundation, awarded a $10,000.00 grant to Hathaway-Sycamores. This significant gift will be used to help support Hathaway-Sycamores Family Resource Center’s Learning Lab which provides free tutoring and SAT-prep classes for children and adolescents in the Highland Park area.

Commenting on all four of these grants, Hathaway-Sycamores’ President and CEO William Martone said, “It’s difficult to express how sincerely we appreciate these foundations’ generosity. As a result of their compassion, Hathaway-Sycamores can continue to help guide children, teens, young adults, and families toward positive life paths.” Adding, “Funding the vital services that we provide is a constant struggle, so we are so very thankful for the truly meaningful support that these foundations have provided.”
