UPDATE: The stolen white Mercedez has been found by a stolen plate reader and California Highway Patrol and is being studied for physical and forensic evidence that might help the police make an arrest.
The San Marino Police Department informed The Tribune that a female resident Thursday was the victim of armed robbery, burglary and car theft in and out of her home on Winston Avenue.
The woman, according to police, was confronted by a male suspect when she returned to her home through her garage in the morning at around 7:45 a.m. The suspect ransacked the home and made demands with the woman for property before the woman ran upstairs, locked her door and then hid inside another room and locked that door to call the police.
When the home grew quiet, the resident headed back downstairs and observed her 2014 white Mercedes Benz SUV had been stolen.
Police describe the suspect as a 28 to 30-year-old black male who was wearing a blue and black shirt, dark pants and a fanny pack.
Officers on the scene made a perimeter before being confronted by a large dog which was shot by one of the officers. The dog is currently at a local veterinary hospital after being transported by the Pasadena Humane Society. Police Chief John Incontro said that the cities of San Marino and Pasadena will pay for the animal’s treatment.
The chief said that incidents like this are not on the rise but unfortunately are common. He said that residents should “be aware of their surroundings.”
