San Marino City Council to Vote On 45-Day Moratorium

By Krista Daly

The San Marino City Council will vote on whether or not to establish a 45-day moratorium on new construction during their next meeting, which will take place on Wednesday, April 8.

Though the council members did not desire a lengthy moratorium, it was determined after an hour-long discussion at their Friday, March 27 meeting that certain issues could be made more clear within the time frame.

The moratorium will allow city staff to strengthen rules of consistency, require both the Design Review Committee and Planning Commission to approve a project, reduce fees for an appeal, mandate story poles as well as consider historic preservation. Residents spoke in favor of a moratorium stating that the process is broken and consistency needs to be tightened.
