California State Treasurer John Chiang Speaks to San Marino High School Students

By Mitch Lehman and Krista Daly

It’s not every day the Treasurer of the largest state in the union drops by the local high school for a little Q&A, but California’s John Chiang did just that this past Monday afternoon, speaking to and fielding questions from two SMHS Government classes assembled in the school’s career center.

Vibrant and energetic, Chiang frequently answered student queries with his own, encouraging the young people to explain their positions on current events. He even opened the hour-long visit by asking students to introduce to him the person to their right, with the name followed by an adjective to describe the classmate (“funny” and “friendly” were the clear winners).
