Philanthropic Educational Organization Meets ADD

By Kimberly Ng

The topics were diverse and flew by fast, like cars on the nearby 210 Freeway, when San Marino Tribune Editor Mitch Lehman addressed a local chapter of the Philanthropic Educational Organization – or P.E.O. – at a local restaurant last Tuesday morning. And afternoon. For more than forty minutes, marked by maybe ten breaths and four sips of ice water, Lehman provided a whirlwind tour through the community where he has worked for eighteen years, fifteen as editor of the eighty-six-year-old publication.

From the recent citizen push against mansionization to the health of the school district to housing prices (and how they are tied to the health of the school district) to crime trends to multiculturalization to his own learning disability (which seemed to strike a particle chord of assent with many of the mothers in the audience), Lehman pulled no punches, tossing out his opinions like Halloween candy.
