“Take care of my wife,” Ben Ubovich quipped, when he realized his aforementioned wife, Carol, had overheard the question, which for the record was “what are you going to do when you retire?”
Ubovich – Dr. Ubovich, to be precise – has been nothing less than a fixture at San Marino High School as music director, a title that is far too finite to properly explain his influence.
“This has been a dream experience,” said Ubovich, who graduated from San Marino High School in 1971 and seventeen years later replaced Tom Murie, his own musical mentor, upon his retirement. “The kids have been great. The parents have been great. There has been so much support from the community. The program has expanded a great deal and I am running out of steam.”
