San Marino Considers Ways to Limit Water Use

By Krista Daly

The city of San Marino may soon be on a limited watering schedule due to the state-wide drought. San Marino City Council directed staff to return with an amendment to its current ordinance. Council members will review potential changes such as the following:

• Even numbered addresses may water their landscaping on Tuesdays and Fridays

• Watering or irrigating lawn, landscaping or other vegetated area is prohibited between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

• Any device that is not continuously attended to is limited to no more than 15 minutes per day per station

•Irrigating outdoors during and within 48 hours following measureable rainfall is prohibited

• Use of potable water for watering streets with trucks, except for initial wash-down for construction purposes (if street sweeping is not feasible), or to protect the health and safety of the public, is prohibited
