The brand-spanking new synthetic surface of San Marino High School provided the perfect metaphorical backdrop for the graduating class of 2015; the newest, but certainly not the first.

It’s certainly doubtful that any group had more fun. Though among the smallest classes in several years, this crop seems about as close and comfortable as any of which it precedes. Lacking in cliques, these Titans appear most comfortable in their own skin. Before declaring them fit for matriculation, Principal Mary Johnson paid homage to their educational ripeness at their final mandatory appearance on the hallowed campus.

“Leave you must,” the first-year principal but long-time faculty member said. “Grow you must. And learn you must. Embrace the chance you have to try new things, meet new people, learn to appreciate the new physical and social landscape – and even the weather. Embracing the uncertainty of leaving what you know will enhance the growth and learning that will become a part of the new you. At San Marino High School, all the songs are sung, all the instruments played, all the parts performed, the dances danced, the games finished, the speeches delivered, the final exams over. You have done enough here; you have had enough. It is time to go.”
