Waterfall, an Epic Love Story, Now Playing at the Pasadena Playhouse

A love story between Katherine, the American wife of a Thai diplomat, and Noppon, a young Thai student, will play out before an audience at the Pasadena Playhouse.

The story of their forbidden love parallels history as the new democracy of Siam moves into the vortex of the increasingly anti-American Japan. “Waterfall,” a musical, is based on a contemporary classic Thai novel “Behind the Painting” by Sriburapha.

Bie Sukrit and Emily Padgett play Noppon and Katherine, respectively. J. Elaine Marcos, who plays Nuan, a Thai servant to Katherine, said her character is very interesting to play as an American.

“As an American, I would say my feelings and opinion right away,” she said describing it as a strange feeling to have to bite her tongue.

Katherine and Nuan learn of the other’s cultural ways and it changes their relationship for the better.

“Although just a servant, Nuan ends up finding a deep relationship with Katherine through all their years in Thailand,” Marcos added.
