Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Stops in San Marino

California State University, Long Beach hosted the Special Olympics Southern California Summer Games on Saturday and Sunday.

More than 1,100 athletes from Southern California competed in aquatics, track and field, basketball, bocce, golf and gymnastics.

“It’s a culmination of all the practices and competitions we’ve had this season,” said Tina Corona, area director for the Special Olympics Southern California–Pasadena.

She said the Special Olympics Southern California – Pasadena basketball and relay teams won gold. Its aquatics team members’ awards ranged from a fifth place ribbon to gold medals.

The Special Olympics torch called the Flame of Hope passed through San Marino on June 10 via the Law Enforcement Torch Run on its way to the weekend games.

Pasadena police handed off the torch to San Marino police who then ran it to give to Alhambra police. Local law enforcement agencies throughout San Gabriel Valley and the region helped carry the Flame of Hope starting on June 8 for the Los Angeles (Central) Leg.
