Though the SMUSD still faces a shortage of state funding, graduates are landing in top schools, Board President Lisa Link recently told the Rotary Club of San Marino at the annual ‘State of the District’ address.
Mrs. Link explained the two-year-old Local Control Funding Formula, or LCFF, which Sacramento uses to distribute state education dollars to public schools.
“Under LCFF, the state reallocated K-12 education funding with a large portion of the funding directed to those school districts with high levels of students living in poverty, students who are English learners and young people in the foster care system,” she said.
“Given that San Marino has a very small population of poor or foster care students or English learners as defined by the formula, we do not qualify for the extra monies that larger and more urban school districts receive.”
