3 San Marino High Graduates Reunite for New Documentary ‘Music Matters’

By Stacy Lee

Three San Marino High School graduates have collaborated on a documentary about the music business.

Scott Kirby, now of San Diego, co-directed and wrote “Music Matters” while Bonnie Ulf Sandborg of Capistrano Beach is promoting the documentary and Michelle Lott of Santa Rosa designed an electronic press kit and collateral materials for it.

“I loved growing up in San Marino,” Kirby said. “I wouldn’t have traded it for anything.”

“We all did our thing and then reconnected by Facebook,” Sandborg said. “Scott and I see each other once a week. We’re all as good friends now as we were growing up together.”

“We all knew each other,” said Lott, who was homecoming queen. “We were all at a hundred different events together.”

Kirby currently is a digital activist, Sandborg works in public relations and Lott is a graphic designer.

“Music Matters” was co-directed by Patrick Mureithi.

Kirby said his goal for the documentary is for it to first be educational and then entertaining.

“The reason we released the film is so people can learn about collusion and the Payola Law,” he said.
