The venerable Rose Arbor at the west entrance of Lacy Park is in need of extensive renovation, if not complete replacement, due to severe weathering and dry rot.

The arbor underwent extensive modification in 2005, but many of the beams –especially those in the southeast corner of the structure – have deteriorated to the point of aesthetic and possible safety concerns. Though some have proposed permanently dismantling the structure, San Marino City Councilman Dennis Kneier wants to give residents an opportunity to be heard on the matter.

“This is a community treasure and I would certainly like to hear from the people before we just tear it down,” said Kneier.
