Last Thursday evening’s championship game of the Lacy Park Fastpitch Softball League featured all the hallmarks strung together from seven decades of lively participation; skilled athleticism, debatable rules interpretations, good-natured banter and – most importantly – a whole lot of fun.
As darkness descended upon Lacy Park (recent discussion has centered around installing lights around the softball diamond, but that’s fodder for a different conversation). The Barristers – very few of whom are actually attorneys – scored a come-from-behind 8-7 victory to claim their fifth championship in the past six seasons over The Rebounders, who couldn’t.
The Barristers’ season was also come-from-behind as the squad overcame “casual play and forfeits,” in their own words, finishing third during the regular season before sweeping through the playoffs.
