SMFD Firefighters Called to Respond to NorCal Fire

San Marino firefighters are part of a local Strike Team with San Gabriel, Arcadia, Monrovia and Monterey Park fire departments battling the wildfires in Northern California.

Four San Marino firefighters traveled in one of the department’s fire engines to Lake County after receiving a call on July 30.

“This is part of a mutual aid agreement we have with the state of California,” San Marino Deputy Fire Chief Mark Phillips said. “They can call upon us to respond.”

He said the firefighters are responding to the Rocky Fire.

“They are fighting the fire, protecting structures and they are helping evacuate some areas,” Phillips said.

He said when those firefighters were called out to respond to the Northern California wildfires, another crew of off-duty firefighters were called in to run San Marino Fire Department.
