Third Party Service Not Feasible for San Marino Neighbor Notification

By Krista Daly

With the spotlight on neighborhood notification for projects coming before the Design Review Committee and Planning Commission, San Marino City Councilmember Allan Yung had suggested a third party courier to close a loophole in which not all neighbors are actually notified.

This third party courier would, ideally, put together a “public hearing notice package” and either deliver or mail it, Yung said.

The package would include time, date and location of the public hearing, and is often sent out 10 days in advance to the legal neighborhood or within a 300 or 500-foot radius of the subject site.

Aldo Cervantes, Planning and Building director, said he found no business that would mail or deliver the packages, which means the city would still have that responsibility. Additionally, these third party services cost at least $200, typically more.
