Crowell Public Library Offers Free Rosetta Stone Access Thanks to Suetsugu Donation

By Stacy Lee

Many residents of San Marino and surrounding communities may not know that they can learn as many as 30 new languages – all free of charge.

All they need is a Crowell Public Library card.

The San Marino library was able to purchase Rosetta Stone thanks to a generous donation by resident Hal Suetsugu.

“We had requests for it for years because the product is so well advertised,” City Librarian Irene McDermott said. “One of our donors, Hal Suetsugu, answered our wish list by donating funds.”

She said the library purchased Rosetta Stone with donated funds late last year. McDermott said Crowell had another language program that wasn’t as well known as Rosetta Stone.

Suetsugu said he likes to make a yearly contribution to the library and he was happy to fund Rosetta Stone for the community. He also said that the language computer program is great for students, noting his son is using Rosetta Stone to learn Spanish.

“I don’t know how many students know about it,” Suetsugu said. “It would be a real advantage if these kids became aware of this free service.”
