Barth Makes Initial Donation to Huntington Middle School Gym

By Mitch Lehman

Longtime San Marino resident and former School Board President Andy Barth, on behalf of his wife, Avery, and their family, recently kicked off the campaign for a new athletic complex at Huntington Middle School with a generous donation.

The development project, which will include improvements to the track, athletic field, offices, locker rooms and introduce a 26,000 sq. ft. gymnasium and media lab to the campus, has been budgeted at $14 million, with construction scheduled to begin in October 2016.

The San Marino School Board unanimously approved the project at their meeting on Friday, Aug. 14, entering into a contract with LPA, the largest schools architectural firm in Southern California.

The district will contribute monies from the capital improvements fund to augment support from the community.

“The Huntington Athletic Complex is a chance for many of us to complete some unfinished business,” said Barth. “This has been a missing piece for a long time. Twenty years ago, a dedicated and committed group of San Marino citizens undertook an effort to bring our school facilities into the modern era. They succeeded smashingly.”
