Over 125 parents attended San Marino Unified School District’s “New Chinese Family Orientation” on Aug. 28 at Huntington Middle School. The event provided a forum for new parents to gain information about the district’s English Language Development Program and related services to help new students and parents have a successful transition to the San Marino Schools community.

Presentations were given by Dr. Alex Cherniss, Superintendent of SMUSD; Lisa Link, SMUSD Board of Education President; C. Joseph Chang, SMUSD Board of Education Clerk; John Simpson, San Marino Schools Foundation President; Stephen Choi, SMUSD Chief Technology Officer; Dr. Gary McGuigan, SMUSD Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services; Leticia Aranda, SMUSD Teacher on Special Assignment; and the District’s English Learners teachers — Danielle Blatchley, Kimberly Cheng, Robert Chacon, and Kelly Chao. PTA Council Chinese Liaison, Mrs. Vanessa Koo, provided interpreting services. At the conclusion of the event, parents had the opportunity to ask questions of the presenters.
