San Marino Police Arrest Carjacking Suspect

On Monday, Sept. 7, at approximately 7:34 a.m., the San Marino Police Department received several 911 phone calls regarding a single vehicle traffic collision with injuries, in the area of Los Robles Avenue and Mission Road.

As officers were responding, the dispatcher stated the driver of the vehicle that was involved in the accident was trying to leave.

Officers arrived on scene and detained the driver, James Harold Strathy, 44,  of Los Angeles. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Strathy attempted to flee the scene by carjacking a good Samaritan motorist who had stopped to see if he was okay. The Good Samaritan/victim, William Hernandez, of Altadena, was uninjured in the incident. Hernandez was able to drive with Strathy hanging onto the driver side door until Strathy let go.

Strathy sustained moderate injuries to his face, from the initial traffic collision, and was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for treatment.

An inventory search of the vehicle Strathy was driving revealed possible stolen property in the form of multiple cellular phones and multiple credit cards, not in Strathy’s name. Investigation is ongoing.

If you have any information regarding the above incident, please contact Sergeant Tim Tebbetts at (626) 300-0722.
