“We, the residents of San Marino, do NOT want the city to tear down part, or all of Stoneman School and rebuild it by taxing the residents up to $10 million to do this. We want the city to renovate the existing building by using the current tax revenue that the city receives from property taxes.”

This statement is the main message of a petition San Marino resident David Lipps started this year after the San Marino City Council began discussing the fate of Stoneman. One hundred and twenty people across the city signed the petition between January and March. Lipps said just one person he spoke to had the opinion that Stoneman should be partially torn down, if not fully torn down.

Currently, the city council is working to maintain and improve the site. Crane Architectural Group is in the process of completing an ADA Assessment, which will be brought back before the city council in a few months.

Though the city council has not ruled out tearing the Stoneman School down, they are leaning more towards preservation right now. The plan could change in the future.
