‘A Toast to California: Regional and Seasonal’ Now Open at the Old Mill

By Stacy Lee

The California Art Club is ending its year-long “Road Trip” Series at the Old Mill in San Marino with the “A Toast to California: Regional and Seasonal” exhibition.

Nearly 40 paintings celebrating California’s varied regions and plentiful harvest are on display now through Jan. 10.

“Agriculture is central to life in California, as the state supplies many healthy and desirable foods to not only the nation, but the world, and with ‘A Toast to California,’ we pay tribute to this important aspect of California living,” exhibition coordinator Madeleine Aguilar said.

Artists painted inspirations such as beaches, vineyards, fruit stands, sand dunes and lavender fields.

“California is such a varied state,” California Art Club President Peter Adams said. “It’s so fascinating.”

He said he recently returned from Crescent City in Northern California.

“There are just some beautiful areas all around California,” Adams said.

He painted one of his favorite streams in the Arroyo Seco, noting “Our most precious commodity in California is water.”
