San Marino Right In the Thick Of Things at Rio Hondo League Opener

The Rio Hondo League cross country season waited until the first day of autumn as Meet No. 1 was held on Wednesday afternoon at dusty, hilly, La Crescenta Park. Led by Xavier Beck, (5th, 17:47), Charlie Perry (6th, 17:47.1) and Eric Lew (7th, 17:48), the varsity boys finished second. Patricio Osequeda (21st, 18:50) and Alexander Lai (22nd, 18:53) rounded out the scoring for the Titans.

Junior Kyle McCall finished ninth in the jayvee competition with a time of 20:30.

Kyle McCall (9th, 20:30) and Ethan Deshais (22nd, 22:02) competed in the junior varsity meet.

San Marino’s varsity girls claimed third place, trailing La Cañada and South Pasadena by a close margin. Senior Olivia Harrigian ran the race of the day for San Marino, finishing second in the girls’ heat in 19:54.

Angela Wang ran a gutsy race, finishing tenth in 21:03. Junior Evelyn Tran survived a fall in the woods to finish 16th in 21:58. Olivia Ruiz (19th, 22:07), Kat Chen (22nd, 22:29) and Carlin Koch (23rd, 23:02) rounded out the lineup.

San Marino’s junior varsity girls were also competitive. Freshman-to-watch Juliana Judge finished seventh, traversing the course in 23:01. Cara Roberts was ninth in 22:39 followed by Meg Hannan (10th, 23:45), Ecca Hu (29th, 26:31) and Jackie Elliott (49th, 28:29).
