By Mitch Lehman

Young people face a myriad of challenges growing up in the 21st century, but a key factor in raising a happy, healthy kid is an open line of communication, a four-person panel seemed to agree on at Partnership for Awareness’s town hall meeting, held Sept. 30 in the Webb Theatre at San Marino High School.

Mary Johnson, principal of San Marino High School, San Marino Police Chief John Incontro, Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss and Laura Ives, San Marino High School’s intervention counselor presented a 90-minute primer titled ‘Not In Our Town,’ which focused on alcohol, drugs, stress, and mental health dangers that challenge today’s adolescents.

“We need your help,” said Cherniss, in opening the program. “How you parent impacts the life of your child as well as the lives of other children.”
