The San Marino Schools Foundation is starting its extra push for donations as they highlight the major funding gap from the state through a series of signs recently installed in front of Huntington Middle School.

The thermometer on the signs will be filled throughout the year to measure the progress made toward the $3 million goal, said SMSF Executive Director Chris Kealey. San Marino Unified School District only receives $9,100 per student, which is about 20 percent lower than the $11,200 Los Angeles Unified receives and less than half the amount schools in Vermont, Connecticut and New York receive in state funding.

The district’s success requires significant effort by bright, hardworking students and dedicated teachers and staff, but it would be nearly impossible without the excellent support provided to the schools by district families and the greater San Marino community. The education Parcel Tax and donations to the Schools Foundation are required to close the funding gap every year.

“Donations to the San Marino Schools Foundation are not mandatory, but are necessary,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Alex Cherniss.

To make a donation or for additional information, please contact the Foundation office at 626-299-7014 or visit www.SMSF.org.
