PfA Hosts Bullying Awareness Event

By Stacy Lee

Public safety advocate Monica Harmon called bullying “an epidemic across the nation” as she spoke to parents and students at the latest Partnership for Awareness community meeting at San Marino High School. “Bullying doesn’t discriminate,” she said on Thursday, Oct. 15. “It doesn’t matter your level of income, your culture or your race. It’s across the board.”

Harmon founded Speak Out Against Bullying Inc. in 2013 and is a member of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s National Education Security Initiative.

PfA Program Co-Chair Su Viswanathan said bullying is something parents and educators need to be vigilant about in watching for the signs and symptoms in children.

“It’s such a national concern that the month of October is designated as Bullying Prevention Awareness Month,” she said.
