Local Author Returns to Carver Elementary

By Stacy Lee

Author Lynn Martin Snowden returned to her former elementary school to speak about her book “Maezie’s Pumpkin Patch,” which is based on a true tale that happened just blocks away.

The San Marino High School graduate visited Carver Elementary on Oct. 27 to share the story of Pasadena resident Maezie Powell and her prized pumpkin patch.

“She grows magnificent pumpkins – the giant pumpkins that grow to be 300 to 500 pounds in the front yard of her home,” Snowden said about the now 96-year-old Gainsborough Drive resident. “It is just this fantastic landmark for the whole community.”

Back on Aug. 31, 2012, Powell discovered that vandals had destroyed her pumpkin patch.
