Pasadena Museum of History Showcases Women’s Fashion in Latest Exhibition

By Stacy Lee

Women’s fashion has changed dramatically throughout the years and outside influences have influenced it greatly.

The newest Pasadena Museum of History exhibition “Fabulous Fashion – Decades of Change: 1890s, 1920s & 1950s” highlights three important decades in women’s fashion and the significant changes made over a 30-year period. It features more than 40 garments, accessories and other nostalgic items.

“It’s a good history lesson,” said Suzanne Ehrmann, co-curator of the exhibition. “This really is about women and what was going on in the world, how they dressed and how things changed. The differences in the decades are huge.”

“I think the curators were very interested in how the fashions reflected the arc of women’s development and changes within society over those decades,” museum Director of Collections Laura Verlaque said. “Going from the very restricted corseted silhouette and a day full of very scheduled, prescribed certain activities to the free and easy 20s, and the back again in the 50s to something very similar to the 1890s.”
