Community Celebrates 80th Anniversary of Hill-Harbison House

By Stacy Lee

Hill-Harbison House has been a home away from home for local Girl Scouts and many others for numerous years.

Community members commemorated the 80th anniversary of the San Marino landmark on Nov. 15.

“We are celebrating by inviting friends throughout the years, past Girl Scouts and current Girl Scouts to the open house so they can see how wonderful the house looks 80 years later thanks to all of our donors and the city,” said Dudley Harbison Doan, whose mother is one of the namesakes of Hill-Harbison House.

“It’s truly a community gem,” Hill-Harbison House Chairwoman Gretchen Shepherd-Romey said. “Our board members are very passionate about it. We’re thrilled to celebrate its 80th anniversary.”

Longtime Girl Scout volunteer Jeff Fastnow also received a plaque for his dedication to the Girl Scouts throughout the years. He said he was “overwhelmed” and gave credit to his late wife Sandi Fastnow.

“She did such wonderful work,” Fastnow said. “She loved Girl Scouts.”
