San Marino Dismantles Don Lugo 52-10 to Advance to CIF Semifinals
By Mitch Lehman
About 15 minutes into last Friday’s CIF Central Division quarterfinal playoff game between San Marino and Don Lugo, it became apparent that a key element in the pageant that is American high school football was sorely missing from the environment: the marching bands.
Because both schools had an equally important field competition the next afternoon, both bands got the night off. San Marino, however, continued to make sweet music in all facets of the football competition, routing the Conquistadores by a final score of 52-10 to advance to tonight’s Titan Stadium semifinal showdown with Summit, dubbed ‘The Turkey Bowl’ by campus hucksters.
It was no laughing matter as San Marino came out swinging, scoring on the game’s first possession to seize momentum when Carson Glazier and Aiden Santino connected for a 31-yard score with 9:12 left in the first quarter.
San Marino’s defense held. A 19-yard completion to Michael Chan up the right sideline set the table for an 18-yard scoring pass to Shohfi for a 14-0 advantage.
