Titan ‘Ship Sails Toward Title Game

San Marino Tops Summit, Will Face Charter Oak Saturday In CIF Central Division Championship Contest at Citrus College

By Mitch Lehman

For weeks, San Marino High School varsity football players, led by senior quarterback Carson Glazier, have made public and private references to ‘The ‘Ship.’

“See you at the ‘ship,’” several comments and posts have declared, leading one to believe they have misidentified a local nautically-themed restaurant.

Fear not. The Titans know exactly where they are headed this Saturday night and it’s the CIF Central Division championship game at Citrus College, where they will meet Charter Oak, the team that ended San Marino’s 2014 campaign with a 49-31 win.

The Titans earned their fare last Friday with a scintillating 35-30 upset of highly touted Summit that rocked the grandstand and shocked the community, which showed up in standing-room-only numbers.

Tomorrow night’s contest will mark San Marino High School’s eighth trip to the championship game, where they hold a 4-3 record. The Titans’ most recent appearance was a 1992 loss to La Mirada. San Marino last brought home the title in 1988, when Bill Maloney’s charges edged Santa Maria by a final score of 19-12.
