Suspect Impersonating Officer in Custody

On Wednesday, Feb. 3 at approximately 10:33 a.m., the San Marino Police Department received a call from the San Marino High School of a male Asian approximately 18-21 years of age identifying himself as a police officer, wearing a handgun and displaying a badge. The male Asian reportedly contacted a few students before leaving the area in a white Toyota Highlander.

As the suspect was talking to the students, one of them thinking quickly, took out his cell phone and took a picture of the suspect and suspect’s vehicle.

With the information from the students, San Marino police officers were able to track the Toyota to an address on the 1600 block of Loma Verde in Monterey Park. Officers contacted the suspect, identified as Kwannam Magnus Ho (18 years of age, Monterey Park), outside his residence and took him into custody without incident. Ho was transported to Alhambra Jail for booking and housing on charges of 538(d)/impersonating an Officer along with other related charges.

A search of the suspect’s vehicle resulted in the recovery of a replica Sig Sauer firearm in the center console, a replica “Police” badge and a FBI hat on the dashboard.

If you or someone you know has had a similar incident, please contact Detective Sergeant Tebbetts of the San Marino Police Department at (626) 300-0722.
