Attendance figures are still being tallied, but the reviews are pretty much complete: Tuesday’s debut ‘San Marino Day’ at the Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens was an unqualified success.

Accompanied by the sounds of the San Marino Community Band, more than 1,500 locals, by The Huntington’s count, strolled the grounds of the iconic institution while sampling the fare of more than twenty-five restaurants and beverage peddlers, on hand as part of the Chamber of Commerce’s ‘Taste of San Marino,’ which was held in accordance.

A preview of the San Marino Centennial Photo Project, a display of classic cars courtesy of local collectors and an opportunity to get up close and personal with equipment from the San Marino Fire and Police Departments also held the attention of younger attendees.

‘San Marino Day’ combined the Chamber’s annual Evening at The Huntington with the vision of Dr. Laura Trombley, President of The Huntington, who from the start of her administration envisioned an event similar to Tuesday’s.

“The Huntington and San Marino have historically always been entwined and we are so glad to be good neighbors,” Dr. Trombley told The Tribune. “Coming together to celebrate the coming of spring is a natural and pleasant way to pay tribute to our shared roots. We look forward to next year!”

A sentiment that was shared by many in attendance on a beautiful spring afternoon.

“San Marino Day was a tremendous experience,” said Mark Choa, a junior on Spring Break from San Marino High School. “The new vendors provided excellent food and seeing the many members of the community in attendance was wonderful. It was a beautiful day and sitting on the lawn of The Huntington, trying new foods, was special.”

“From our perspective, the combined ‘San Marino Day’ and ‘Evening at The Huntington’ was a spectacular success,” said Stewart Rogers, marketing director of Alice Computer and the president of the San Marino Chamber of Commerce. “All the guests that I met were very happy with the experience. I would like to thank the Huntington Library, Randy Schulman and his team for their support throughout the planning process as well as everyone on the Chamber event committee, especially Pete Loeffler, Diana Doi and Chamber’s own Rita Rodriguez for efforts above and beyond.”
