The City of San Marino’s Recreation Department has a new summer intern. J.P. Fisher is a rising senior at Bard College in New York, where he studies political science and economics while playing for the Raptors’ baseball team.

Fisher and his family recently moved to San Marino from San Diego. He is working with recreation department staff to prepare a recreation facilities presentation.

The presentation will assess the value of Stoneman School. The San Marino City Council will hear the presentation at its September meeting.

During his 10 weeks as an intern, Fisher will also analyze historical trends at recreational facilities in the city in an attempt to identify more efficient ways of providing services.

He’s working on finding answers to questions like ‘What’s the economic impact to the city if we stop providing daycare?’

Fisher is excited to learn about the inner workings of local government. An aspiring attorney, he hopes this experience will also provide him an opportunity to explore the work of the city attorney.

In addition to his internship, Fisher is studying for the LSAT, a required entrance exam for prospective law school students, and developing his 75-to-150-page senior thesis, which will likely focus on either the Israeli-Palestinian conflict or the Citizens United Supreme Court case.

Prior to his internship with the City of San Marino, Fisher was an intern for Rep. Duncan Hunter of California’s 50th Congressional District.
