While Huntington Middle School students are enjoying their summer break, San Marino Unified School District crews are hard at work installing a new fire line in the school’s parking lot.
The underground line, which will run from Huntington Drive to the Huntington Middle School gym, will deliver water to a new fire hydrant in front of the gym and a sprinkler system inside the Barth Athletic Complex.
The Barth Athletic Complex, which will be a 26,000 sq. ft., two-level, $15 million facility, is expected to break ground next summer, with an anticipated completion date of August, 2019. The new athletic complex will include a regulation-size gymnasium, a fitness room, a multi-purpose/wrestling room, boys and girls locker rooms, and two classrooms.
Crews began their work on June 27. They are currently in the process of laying new pipes and expect to finish the project by August 1, two weeks before the start of the 2016-17 school year.
Parking availability is affected during construction. Though drivers can still enter the Huntington Middle School parking lot from Huntington Drive, most of the lot east of the San Marino Center is gated off. Parking behind the San Marino Center and the Crowell Public Library is still available. Parking will be back to normal by Monday, August 8.
