Baha Dies In Auto Accident

San Marino resident Bonnie Baha, regarded as one of the top investment minds in the country, was killed yesterday in Charlottesville, Virginia when she was struck by a car as she and two other members of her family crossed a street.

The Baha’s were in Charlottesville to drop off son, Ayman, at the University of Virginia, where he will be a first-year student.

Baha’s husband, Mustapha, and daughter, Miriam, were also struck by the vehicle while walking in a crosswalk. Their injuries are not life-threatening, according to a news report. The driver was apparently making a left-hand turn and ignored pedestrians in the crosswalk. Local police have not released the results of their investigation.

Bonnie Baha was head of Global Developed Credit at DoubleLine Capital LP. She and her associates managed investments in fixed and floating-rate securities.

“Bonnie was a trusted colleague and dear friend,” said Jeffrey Gundlach, chief executive of the DoubleLine, in a statement. “She was honest and direct, with a sardonic wit perfectly matching her investment skepticism.”

A friend of the family told The Tribune that Bonnie had been in Nice, France the night of the terrorist attack on July 14.

Miriam Baha was a 2012 graduate of San Marino High School and recently graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

Please see this Friday’s Tribune for a full obituary.
