The 2016-17 National PTA Reflections program theme is “What is Your Story” and interested students have until Oct. 14 to submit their entry.

The San Marino PTA Council will host a Showcase Open House to present the work of local entrants on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the San Marino Unified School District Office boardroom. The event is free and open to the public.

The National PTA Reflections program is an arts recognition and achievement program for students. It gives students a chance to express themselves creatively and earn positive recognition for original works of art inspired by a pre-selected theme while increasing community awareness of the importance of the arts in education.

The Reflections Program is one of the biggest events that involves the four schools in the San Marino Unified School District. Students can submit an entry in any of the six arts areas: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography and Visual Arts. Students may enter more than one work of art, but are limited to only one in each category. Entries are judged at the local unit level, council, district PTA, state and, lastly, at the national levels. Rules and information can be found on www.capta.org. Click on ‘Programs & Events.’
