Chinese Club of San Marino Puts On Another Top-Notch Mid-Autumn Festival

With robots, samba dancers, ballerinas, a Chinese rock star, live auction and a top-notch orchestra, one might say that the Chinese Club of San Marino’s annual Mid-Autumn Festival last Saturday at the San Gabriel Hilton “had it all.”

They wouldn’t be far off.

“The Chinese Club of San Marino had another successful Mid-Autumn Festival banquet in large part due to the involvement of the San Marino community,” said Incoming President John Chou. “The money raised will allow us to continue to support the San Marino Schools Foundation, and the San Marino schools in general. I am very thankful for SMHS physics teacher Scott Barton, who brought members of his Robotics Club and their robots to entertain the guests at the start of the evening. The Huntington Middle School Orchestra, under the direction of Rob Folsom, performed beautifully. And, the San Marino High School Chamber Choir, led by a student conductor, didn’t miss a beat as they took their place to sing.”

Last year, the event raised more than $40,000 for the SMUSD and there is no reason to believe that number won’t be topped in 2016.

“Putting together an event like this is a lot of work,” said Chou, who in January will take over for current President Hai-Sou Chen. “But it’s much easier when you have so many volunteers willing to help, and I’m so grateful to them all.”
