Cornelia Ann Eggleston Hatten, a nearly lifelong resident of San Marino, passed away peacefully on Nov. 26 with her four children at her side. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Catherine Eggleston, and her husband, Charles Willis Hatten. She is survived by her two daughters, Carol Hatten and Karen Hatten D’Asero (Marcelo); her two sons, William Hatten, Charles Hatten Jr. (Elizabeth); her sister Catherine E. Cairns of Maitland, Fla.; her niece Susan Luczak of Winter Park, Fla.; and her nephew John Cairns of Apopka, Fla. as well as cousins, grand-nephews and nieces.
Cornelia was born on June 5, 1934, in Whittier, Calif., but came of age in San Marino. After she graduated from South Pasadena High School, class of 1952, she attended UC Berkeley and then the Katherine Gibbs School in New York. She married her husband, Charles, soon thereafter in 1956, and they began their life together in Havana, Cuba. She and Charles also lived in Madrid, Spain, and Singapore before returning home to San Marino.
In public life, Cornelia was very involved in the San Marino Chapter of the National Charity League, in which she served as president and executive secretary; in the Martin Severance Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; in the Gamma Phi Beta sorority; and in the National Panhellenic Conference at USC. She also served as executive secretary to the dean of the USC School of Pharmacy.
She was a devoted daughter, wife and mother, and she will be greatly missed.
