Titan Juniors Finish 1 & 2 At Reagan Debate Series

Anthony Ma, Teddy Wong Advance to National Finals In July

Anthony Ma and Theodore “Teddy” Wong – both juniors at San Marino High School – finished atop the entire field last weekend at the Ronald Reagan Great Communicator Debate Regional Debate Series, which was held at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley.

Anthony and Teddy advanced to the final round as the last two “still-standing” finalists.

The debate resolution for the competition was “The United States should provide a path to citizenship to undocumented immigrants.”

Per tournament standards, Anthony and Teddy each had to present opposite views of the resolution. They then were required to debate the opposite side. In the end, Anthony took 1st place on a 3-0 decision with Teddy claiming the 2nd spot. In doing so, they earned a slot at the National Championship round, which will be held at the Reagan Library in July. There are $40,000 in scholarships available to participants at the Ronald Reagan Great Communicator Debate Regional Debate Series national championships.

“Both Anthony and Teddy did a great job,” said Matt Slimp, San Marino High School’s Speech & Debate coach.

Other regional competitions from which their opponents shall be drawn were held in Texas, Missouri, Washington, DC, New York and also in an online format.

“These two good friends and fellow Titans did it in person,” said Slimp.
