The Rotary Club of San Marino held its annual Chili Cook-Off at its meeting last week. Members and guests enjoyed tasting and voting on the six entries cooked up by Mike Driebe, Kathleen Marangi, Gilda Moshir, Russ Osmonson, Eugene Sun and Maziar Yarahmadi. (This year, the fire and police departments were blocked from entering, owing to previous chili cook-off domination.) Members Iris Snyder and Roberta Gundersen presented a humorous history of chili throughout the ages. After ballots were tallied, the winner of the popular vote was Marangi, and the official judging panel, which included Julienne’s Julie Campoy, San Marino Fire Chief Mario Rueda and San Marino Police Commander Aaron Blondé, selected Mike Driebe as the overall victor. Driebe elected to donate his $1,000 prize to one of Rotary International’s school programs in Uganda.
