The Huntington Library’s President Laura Trombley has resigned from the position as of March 28, effective immediately, according to a press release from the library’s board of trustees.
Trombley, who was tapped as president of the Huntington Library in 2015, is stepping down to immediately begin a book-length study on Mark Twain after winning the Louis J. Budd Award for outstanding contributions in the Field of Twain Scholarship, the board said in the statement.
Trombley did not reply to press queries regarding her departure.
This scholarship and study is the reason for her resignation, the board said.
“We wish Laura well in all her future endeavors and scholarship and appreciate all her fine efforts on behalf of the Huntington,” said Anne Rothenberg, chairwoman of the board of trustees, in the release.
Trombley will continue to serve the Huntington as an adviser to the board of trustees. Steve Hindle, the W.M. Keck Foundation director of research at the Huntington, has been named acting president in Trombley’s stead. The institution will soon launch a search for her permanent replacement.
