The San Marino Garden Club recently enjoyed a tour of Mary Blodgett and Carlton Calvin’s unique home and gardens. The 1954 classic midcentury home designed by Calvin Straub was featured in Dwell Magazine last August after having been renovated by Fung & Blatt Architects. The property includes a new ceramics studio with a roof planted with colorful succulents, an art studio and library, a pool house with kitchen and dining area, gym with sauna, a guest house, garage, potting shed, tennis court and numerous outdoor seating areas. Elysian Landscapes transformed the 1.4-acre lot, which included several majestic oak trees, by adding numerous Japanese maple trees, agaves, tall grasses and succulents. Mary’s refreshments included homemade limeade and freshly baked shortbread cookies flavored with rosemary and lavender from her garden.
