Man Convicted in 2015 Attempted Robbery

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced the conviction of a Glendora man who was accused of attempting to rob a San Marino family at gunpoint in their home, among other crimes.
Clayton Addleman, 26, was found guilty on Wednesday, July 12, of 13 charges, including first-degree residential robbery, attempted murder, grand theft of an automobile, grand theft of personal property, identity theft, forgery, assault with a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, unlawful possession of ammunition, petty theft and three counts of first-degree burglary.
Addleman was arrested on Dec. 29, 2015, shortly after breaking into a home in the 500 block of Huntington Drive while its occupants were inside. Armed with a gun, he tried to steal a vehicle from the San Marino family before fleeing on foot.
Officers with San Marino Police Department tracked down Addleman and arrested him with help from surveillance footage at the home.
“That helped us quite a bit in getting a conviction,” said San Marino Police Chief John Incontro.
Before this home invasion, Addleman had on Dec. 27, 2015, committed a drive-by shooting in Glendora in which he missed the victim. When Addleman was arrested two days later, officers found ammunition and checks and ID cards that did not belong to him, according to a statement by Sarah Ardalani with the DA’s Office.
“We were able to connect him to the Glendora case,” Incontro said. “We did some good follow-up. He was identified and, because Glendora had him on the attempted murder charge, we joined forces with them to prosecute the case.”
Addleman is set for sentencing on Aug. 3 and could face up to 52 years or life in prison. When arrested, he was on probation following a July 2015 conviction of possession of drugs and possession of a firearm by a felon, for which he was sentenced to 180 days in jail.
Incontro said the conviction was a victory in the continuing fight against burglaries and robberies in the San Gabriel Valley.
“It’s nice to hear,” he said. “The detectives really work hard. I was so impressed with Det. (Brian) Wong and Det. (Patrice) Garcia and the leadership of (Sgt.) Tim Tebbetts.”
