When Denise Wadsworth, as president of Rotary Club of San Marino, rang the club bell last week and said, “This meeting is officially adjourned,” she also was effectively adjourning another special event.
Her own wedding.
Wadsworth, who was wedded to Richard Blair after 10 years of dating and a March engagement, said it came naturally to host the wedding during Rotary’s meeting.
“Rotary changed my life for the better,” Wadsworth, a speech-language pathologist at Huntington Middle School, said. “I am a better person and a better humanitarian. These are the folks who do all this good work with me and inspire me to be a better person.”
The ceremony — and, by proxy, the meeting — was held at St. Edmund’s Episcopal Church and also coincided with Blair’s birthday.
“It all worked out because of that,” Wadsworth said. “When you get older, you want to simplify things. We usually travel for his birthday, so now, we’ll have two reasons to celebrate on those trips.”
