San Marino Woman Faces Felony Evasion Charge

A San Marino woman faces multiple new and more serious charges following a high-speed chase through the city last week.
Joyce Yanjean Hsu, a 29-year-old San Marino woman, was charged with felony evading police and misdemeanor hit-and-run at her arraignment Monday at Los Angeles Superior Court in Alhambra.
She was jailed on Sept. 14 on $75,000 bond after being arrested Sept. 11, when she was hospitalized for injuries related to the collision at the end of the pursuit.
Hsu initially was arrested on charges of misdemeanor evading police and reckless driving, which were dropped by the San Marino Police Department and replaced by the new charges.
A police officer with San Marino Police Department tried pulling over Hsu at 8:37 p.m. on Sept. 11, near the intersection of Huntington Drive and San Marino Avenue. Hsu is alleged to have instead sped off and led officers on a chase through both the main corridor of Huntington Drive and also residential side streets.
Hsu allegedly collided with both the Starbucks at Huntington Drive and San Marino Avenue and also a light pole in the 1600 block of Huntington Drive before she was apprehended by officers. She was treated at Huntington Hospital for injuries sustained in the collisions, according to SMPD.
