Locals Help Poly to Hoop Heights

Four young men from San Marino are making an impact on Pasadena Polytechnic’s varsity boys’ basketball team, which as of this writing is 21-3 overall and 6-1 in Prep League action, splitting its two games with Flintridge Prep.
Freshman Brandon Szeto joins seniors James Olson, Jackson Hayes and Graham Olson as major contributors to the squad which will most likely win its second consecutive league title.
Szeto averages 8.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game off the bench at guard and Hayes chips in with 11.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and just over 3 assists while shooting 48% from three-point territory as a point guard.
Forwards Graham (7.4 points and 8.1 rebounds) and James (4.1 points and 5.7 rebounds) Olson shoulder the load under the basket.
All four played SMCAA flag football as youngsters and Hayes and Szeto played SMCAA basketball as well.
Graham Olson was accepted at Pomona, where he will play football and Hayes will play football at Bates College in Maine. Both were all-Prep League selections in football and Hayes was named Offensive MVP. James Olson, also an all-Prep League footballer, was accepted at the University of Michigan, but is still waiting on decisions from other colleges.
