Anessa Lee Wins Prestigious Easter Bowl Tennis Title

Disinvited Dad Watches From Home

With her father, Albert, at home and watching a live streamed computer feed of the proceedings, Anessa Lee – a sophomore at San Marino High School – defeated India Houghton of Tiburon, California 6-2, 6-3 to win the Girls’ 16 championship of the prestigious Easter Bowl tennis tournament at Indian Wells.

Lee, ranked #22 in the nation for her age group, lost only one set during the weeklong event to earn the coveted Gold Ball that accompanies the title.

And she did it all without dad.

“She didn’t want to break the string of luck,” Albert Lee said, laughing heartily. “I figured, ‘OK, if it’s been working, let it keep working.’” Mother and wife Pearl Lee spent the week with her daughter and when Anessa qualified for the finals on Friday, Albert planned on making the drive to the desert. Daughter politely advised otherwise.

“Instead, I was stuck in the kitchen watching on the home computer,” Albert Lee told The Tribune. “Whatever works. I am very happy and proud.”
